PRESS RELEASE - The Springfield Soccer Club 91/92 Girls travelled to Memphis, TN this past weekend to participate in the GIT Select College Showcase December 12-13, 2009. The girls came away from the event with lots of college exposure from the numerous coaches in attendance and also a perfect 3-0 record.

“It was a fantastic weekend for the girls. Really a bit unbelievable when you consider how we won the games. We battled hard under some adverse weather and field conditions and in all three games found a way to walk away with a win. said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations for the Springfield S.C. “Each year we attend this event for the high level of competition against teams that we don’t typically see at a showcase and for the college exposure.” The GIT Select Showcase typically draws over 180 teams on the weekend.

In the first game of the day on Saturday the girls matched up against a Chicago based club in NSA Premier. The game finished in a 2-1 favor for Springfield Soccer Club. In the evening game which was played under a constant drizzle and dropping temperatures the girls were under heavy pressure right from the beginning against CFC Ambassadors from Ohio. “We constantly had to defend a very athletic team in the first half. In the second half we settled down and created a few more chances. We bent but did not break and that is difficult to do against a quality opponent.” said Alumbaugh. Off of a set piece in the final third Alix Opfer served in a ball that Ann Marie Banasik saved and played to Andrea Parker who finished it right under the goalkeeper. The goal occurred in the last 30 seconds of the game to give the girls a 1-0 victory.

On Sunday after a day and evening full of rain the fields had become very difficult with water and mud on the once nice bermuda grass surfaces. The opponent in the final game was GSA Phoenix out of Georgia. The girls found an early goal only to give up the equalizer right before half. Once again some late game heroics as Shelby Hatz put away a Jessica Bowman cross for a 2-1 result.

Team members for the weekend were: Brittany Dunn, Jacinda Lemons, Alix Opfer, Rebecca Mayus, Andrea Parker, Veronica Renner, Erin Fitzgerald, Jayme Braun, Jessica Bowman, Shelby Hatz, Mandy Bailes, Jordan Banasik, Emily Ortega, Katie Lynn and Ann Marie Banasik.

PRESS RELEASE – The Springfield Soccer Club 95/96 I Girls recently completed league play in the KC Heartland 1st Division. The team completed a perfect 8-0 season in the Under 14 1st Division. This marks the first time a Springfield S.C. Girls team has captured the league championship in the 1st Division. In the Under 13 Boys 2nd Division the Springfield Soccer Club 96/97 I Boys finished in first place, which will earn them promotion to the top division for Spring 2010.

The Heartland Soccer League attracts the top clubs from throughout the greater Kansas City area as they seek to compete against the best competition. Teams also participate in the league from Columbia, Topeka, KS, Wichita, KS, Omaha, NE and other areas. “The KC Heartland League has become a great vehicle for the older teams in our club to test themselves as we constantly prepare to be one of the top teams in the state and Midwest Region. We have enjoyed the organization and competition of this league. The majority of our teams have earned the chance to play in the 1st Division through results and promotion. Since we make the commitment to play in the league we strive to play only in the top division, we don’t want to play in the 3rd or 4th division. Sometimes we start in the second or third Division but the players and teams earn their way to the 1st Division. There isn’t another club from outside KC that has that track record like our teams do. It is a testament to the environment that our coaches and players have created in Springfield.” said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations for the Springfield Soccer Club.

Also, competing in the KC Heartland League were the Springfield Soccer Club 96/97 Girls in the Under 13 Girls 2nd Division. They completed the season with a 6-1-1 record which put them in second place and will earn promotion to the first division for the Spring 2010. The Springfield Soccer Club 94/95 Girls had a 4-2-2 record for third place in the Under 15 Girls 3rd Division and should also be moved up to the second division when they resume league play in the Fall 2010. Playing up in the Under 18 Girls 1st Division the Springfield Soccer Club 92/93 Girls finished with a 3-2-2 record and will return to the top flight in Fall of 2010 as well.

After winning the Spring 2009 1st Division the Springfield Soccer Club 95/96 I Boys finished with a 3-3-2 record this fall in the Under 14 1st Division and will remain in the top fight for the Spring 2010. “With league games being played at the Overland Park Soccer Complex which has 12 brand new state of the art fieldturf fields it is a fantastic place to get competitive league games.” said Eric Sorlie Director of Player Development for the Springfield Soccer Club. “Once again the older teams have raised the bar of expectations for the younger teams in our club.” KC Heartland League play will resume in March of 2010.

The tournament started out on a brisk Saturday morning with the familiar red and black uniforms active on many fields.

Overall, the club supported Lake Country Soccer by having seventeen teams in the tournament, more than any other local organization. “We feel it is important to support the local tournaments. With so many of our teams having to travel outside of Springfield to get quality league games, the tournaments put on by Lake Country Soccer give us an opportunity to compete at home in front of family and friends for the first time all year.” said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations.

The fall club soccer season is almost at the midway point and the teams were starting to click with their performances. On the boys side the SSC 00/01 Red brought home the Championship in the Under 9 Division in their first tournament as a team. The SSC 98/99 Academy Black team captured their second tournament Championship by winning the Under 11 8 v 8 Gold Division. Playing in the Under 12 11 v 11 Division the SSC 97/98 Boys brought home 2nd Place as they used the weekend to tune up their game before heading to Tulsa this weekend. The SSC 96/97 II Boys and the SSC 95/96 I Boys both made runs into the Semi-Finals before exiting the competition.

Not to be outdone by the boys teams the girls side of the club brought home three Championships. In an exciting 1-0 OT win over Carrera the SSC 98/99 Red Girls won the Under 11 Girls Bracket. The SSC 95/96 I Girls defeated St. Louis Scott Gallagher-Holland to win the Under 14 Division.

The highlight of the weekend was the SSC 91/92 Girls who playing in their neon jerseys were hard to miss. Not having played a match since some friendly games in August the girls quickly got back into rhythm as they prepare for a demanding stretch of college showcase events in November, December and January. They finished bracket play with three wins and no losses. Those results setup a showdown with local team Missouri Elite FC. Missouri Elite FC took a quick 1-0 lead in the final in front of a large crowd at Lake Country Soccer Cooper Stadium. The 18 Girls quickly responded in the 2nd half by scoring four unanswered goals in the first twelve minutes of the 2nd half. They went on to defeat Missouri Elite FC 4-1 and capture the Under 18 Gold Division Girls Championship. “I’m real proud of the girls. We battled hard all weekend and simply got a little better each game. It’s pretty special for them to win this tournament in their last appearance and to do it in a convincing matter against a local rival made it even better.”

“If we can stay healthy and focused we should have an enjoyable last few months as a team, because we have a lot of talent that enjoys playing together.” said Alumbaugh.

Thanks, to all players, parents, teams and coaches for a fantastic weekend of soccer right here in our own backyard. Without the support of Lake Country Soccer and the Incredible Pizza Company events like this would be impossible in our community.

PRESS RELEASE- This past weekend the Springfield Soccer Club 90/91 (Under 18) Boys claimed their third consecutive trip to the US Youth Soccer Region II Championships held this year in Sioux Falls, SD June 20-24, 2009. Sixteen teams will compete in pool play to determine the Regional Champion and advance to the US Youth Soccer National Championships July 21-26, 2009 in Lancaster, Massachusetts.
By participating in the Midwest Regional League Premier Division the team was able to qualify for the MRL Wildcard given to the highest finishing non- State Cup winner in the division to go to US Youth Soccer Region II Championships. The Springfield S.C. 90/91 will participate in the MYSA State Cup Championships held in Springfield, MO June 6-8, 2009. If the team captures their third consecutive MYSA State Cup Championship then the MRL Wildcard spot will drop down to St. Louis Scott Gallagher Team One. In 2008 the Springfield S.C. 90/91 also captured the MRL Championship, but as the MYSA State Cup Winner the Wildcard spot was awarded to St. Louis Scott Gallagher.
Attending the US Youth Soccer Regional Championships will give the team the opportunity to better their last two appearances where they have twice been Semi- Finalists in Des Moines, IA and Rockford, IL in 2007 and 2008 respectively. “Without a doubt this group is very focused on winning their third consecutive MYSA State Cup Championship. Having it here in our own backyard is extra motivation. Bottom line is we are headed to Regionals where our goal is to capture the Championshp. If we win the State Cup again it will be special, but it does take a little pressure off knowing we have already qualified.” said Cory Carr Head Coach and Director of the Senior Boys Program.
The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series is the official youth soccer championship as sanctioned by US Youth Soccer. Over 10,000 teams enter at the State Cup level and 926 will earn the right to attend one of the four US Youth Soccer Regionals. 60 teams advance to the Nationals where 12 National Champions are crowned in July.
