U16 SSC Trip to the Region II tournament ends

The Springfield S.C. U16-Boys magical ride at the USYS Midwest Region II Championships ended today with a 3-1 loss to the # 1 ranked Michigan Wolves.  The SSC boys held a 1-0 advantage going into the final stages of the match before allowing a goal on a set piece to tie the game 1-1.  A few minutes later the Wolves capitalized to make it 2-1.  SSC pushed numbers forward to find the tying goal and gave up a third one for the final of 3-1.  The Wolves will now face the Chicago Magic on Wednesday for the Regional Championship.

During the last four days in Des Moines the boys gained lots of respect not only for themselves but for the entire Springfield Soccer Club.  Their performances in group play were the talk of the event heading into the Semi-Finals today.  College coaches, fans, opponents, and club coaches were excited about the results the boys achieved and more importantly how they went about it on and off the field.  Everyone associated with SSC should be extremely proud of their efforts to put the club on the map.

The road to becoming a State Cup Champion, and a Regional Semi-Finalist is not an easy one.  It takes dedication, talent, teamwork and belief in the SSC system from players, parents and coaches.  Thanks to these players, parents and Coach Cory Carr the road for future SSC teams is a lot less bumpy as they have paved the way for more success.  Congratulations on an unbelievable run that will not be forgotten!

U16 SSC Earning Success at Midwest Regional Championships

What an exciting start to the Midwest Region II Championships for the Springfield Soccer Club Under 16 Boys. The clubs first showing ever at the Region II Championships has been an extremely successful one.

In their first game, Saturday morning, against FC Milwaukee the boys started off well with a strong 2-0 victory. The first game set up an important meeting with Sockers FC from Chicago, who is ranked #2 in the region going into Sunday afternoon’s game. Again in the second game SSC was able to get off to a flying start with a first half goal by Devon Newport to put them up 1-0 going into halftime. In the second half Sockers were able to tie up the game and set up an exciting finish to the game. SSC again responded well with a strong finish by Graham Basecke, punishing a header into the back of the net to go up 2-1. Tim Griffin was able put the game away 3-1 after picking off a pass and tucking the ball away smoothly.

These two wins set up the third and final game of pool play Monday morning against the Fort Wayne Fever from Indiana. Monday’s game should be a very interesting game and with another strong showing SSC is looking to move on to the semi-final round of play.
