PRESS RELEASE - During the weekend of April 10-11, 2010 the Springfield Soccer Club once again made its’ presence known at a regional tournament. Three teams competed in the SLSG Boys College Showcase, which is highly regarded as the top boys college showcase in the Midwest region. The weather was perfect all weekend long with the sun shining and temps in the 70’s.
The 92/93 boys had a tough weekend result wise at 1-2, but for their first games since March 7 competed quite well. Their competition consisted of Ajax (MO), Dynamo Katner (IN), and CUP Crew Jr.s (OHS) which is an USD Academy program. Many college coaches walked away with a list of players they are looking forward to watching again. The 93/94 boys did very well. They captured the title by winning all 3 games. Add to it that they gave up no goals and things are looking pretty good going forward. They played against some top competition in Lou Fusz SC, regional power Yahara (WI), and the Chicago Fire Jrs. Development Academy (another USDA program). The 94/95I boys captured the title as well by going 3-0. They played against the Eclipse Select North (IL), SLSG Premier (USDA program), and Eclipse Select (IL), an MRL Premier Division team.
“It’s always great to win a tournament, especially one that’s as prestigious as the SLSG College Showcase. This has always been regarded as the top showcase in the Midwest and one that college coaches mark on their calendar. And to win 2 divisions speaks volumes for the work that the coaches and players have put into their game,” commented Eric Sorlie, Director of Soccer Operations. A big thank you goes out to the players, parents, and coaches for traveling up to St. Louis, and taking on the task of competing in such a wonderful tournament. You all represented the Springfield Soccer Club very well!
