Springfield Soccer Club Raises Over $36,000 for 2nd Year in A Row

PRESS RELEASE - For the second consecutive year the Springfield Soccer Club raised over $36,000 during its’ 24 Hour Marathon Soccer Match. Held for 24 consecutive hours on January 22nd- 23rd all 29 teams within the club participated in the match and helping raise donations for the Champion Athletes of the Ozarks and the Springfield Soccer Club.

The game consisted of each team playing for an hour time frame beginning at 4:00pm on Friday, January 22rd and continuing until 4:00pm on Saturday January 23rd. The game was kicked off by the Champion Athletes of the Ozarks as they participated in the first hour of the game. “The 24 hour game once again showed how powerful the Springfield Soccer Club can be through its families. From the financial donations to the time people gave to come out and support the Champions Athletes of the Ozarks was tremendous. It just goes to show the impact young people can have on their community as an individual and a group. A BIG thank you to Susan Miles with The Champion Athletes of the Ozarks for all of her help, to the athletes for coming out and playing for an hour and to everyone involved with the Springfield Soccer Club for showing how much they care for others in the community. Looking forward to making  next year even bigger!” said Eric Sorlie Director of Soccer Operations for the Springfield Soccer Club.

Each team did more than their fair share in raising pledges and also helped them realize they can help the community in many ways. This year a set of adidas warm-up tops were awarded to the boys & girls team who raised the most donations. On the boys side the SSC 94/95 II boys won again and the SSC 98/99 Red Girls took home the honors on the girls side.

All together the 24 Hour Marathon Soccer Match raised $36,181.67. On Thursday February 25, 2010 the Springfield Soccer Club will present the Champion Athletes of the Ozarks a donation of $15,090.35 at the Annual SSC Awards Banquet & Silent Auction. The Springfield Soccer Club also donated official SSC adidas jerseys to those Champion Athletes who participated in the match.” The 24 hour game is always so much fun! Raising funds for charity and then getting to play soccer with your team is great. I can’t wait till next year. Also, it is so much fun watching the other SSC teams compete.” said Renon Kirkpatrick Under 11 Red Girls Team.

Springfield Soccer Club and the Champion Athletes of the Ozarks would like to thank its presenting sponsors; Dental Care of Nixa, Great Southern Bank, SRC, adidas, J & K Soccer, and Licata Bankruptcy Firm, P.C. Without their sponsorship this event would have been difficult to put on.

This event provided an opportunity for SSC players to contribute to the community and also their club, while doing what they do best-playing soccer!! We are very proud and thankful of the support that this event raised for the club and more importantly the generous donations that were generated for the Champion Athletes of the Ozarks and will allow them to expand their outstanding list of programs.

Springfield Soccer Club Alumni Game 2009 Has Players From All Over Coming Back to Play

PRESS RELEASE – On Monday December 21, 2009 the Springfield Soccer Club held its annual Alumni Game at the Lake Country SoccerDome. The event gives past players an opportunity to relive the glory years on the soccer field and catch up with old friends, teammates and coaches. Also, the graduating seniors are invited to help bridge the gap between the past and present.

For the 2009 game there were over 55 players in attendance. “The alumni game is such a great thing offered by our club in many ways, and it means a great a deal to me to be apart of it. With the increasing amount of talent we turn out, there isn’t a better place to witness it than through this game, with everyone coming back from school for the holidays. To be able to hang out with good people and soccer players you’ve grown up with in a fun soccer setting, it really puts into perspective how much this club is just as much a family as it is a growing soccer club.” said Ben Hamilton current SSC Coach and current player at Drury.

The game was highlighted by players who have continued to play soccer at the collegiate level, whether it is on the varsity level, reserve, club team or intramurals. While there is a rotation from field to field amongst the teams the games do turn out to be quite competitive. “Each year the game starts out a little slow with players unsure of how it will be and then the competitiveness kicks in that made these players so good and fun to watch the past number of years.” said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations.

At the conclusion of the event an Alumni Reception was held at Rivals Casual Grille and there were over 75 people in attendance.

The Springfield Soccer Club wishes to thank all of those in attendance at the game and reception and looks forward to continuing to watch the success of the Springfield Soccer Club Alumni both on and off the field.

Stay tuned to the club website www.springfieldsportsclub.com for Alumni Updates as well as the newsletter for the always popular Q & A with an SSC Alumni.

Springfield S.C. 91/92 Girls Enjoy Success at GIT Showcase

Springfield S.C. 91/92 Girls Enjoy Success at GIT Showcase

PRESS RELEASE -  The Springfield Soccer Club 91/92 Girls travelled to Memphis, TN this past weekend to participate in the GIT Select College Showcase December 12-13, 2009. The girls came away from the event with lots of college exposure from the numerous coaches in attendance and also a perfect 3-0 record.

“It was a fantastic weekend for the girls. Really a bit unbelievable when you consider how we won the games. We battled hard under some adverse weather and field conditions and in all three games found a way to walk away with a win. said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations for the Springfield S.C. “Each year we attend this event for the high level of competition against teams that we don’t typically see at a showcase and for the college exposure.” The GIT Select Showcase typically draws over 180 teams on the weekend.

In the first game of the day on Saturday the girls matched up against a Chicago based club in NSA Premier. The game finished in a 2-1 favor for Springfield Soccer Club. In the evening game which was played under a constant drizzle and dropping temperatures the girls were under heavy pressure right from the beginning against CFC Ambassadors from Ohio. “We constantly had to defend a very athletic team in the first half. In the second half we settled down and created a few more chances. We bent but did not break and that is difficult to do against a quality opponent.” said Alumbaugh. Off of a set piece in the final third Alix Opfer served in a ball that Ann Marie Banasik saved and played to Andrea Parker who finished it right under the goalkeeper. The goal occurred in the last 30 seconds of the game to give the girls a 1-0 victory.

On Sunday after a day and evening full of rain the fields had become very difficult with water and mud on the once nice bermuda grass surfaces. The opponent in the final game was GSA Phoenix out of Georgia. The girls found an early goal only to give up the equalizer right before half. Once again some late game heroics as Shelby Hatz put away a Jessica Bowman cross for a 2-1 result.

Team members for the weekend were: Brittany Dunn, Jacinda Lemons, Alix Opfer, Rebecca Mayus, Andrea Parker, Veronica Renner, Erin Fitzgerald, Jayme Braun, Jessica Bowman, Shelby Hatz, Mandy Bailes, Jordan Banasik, Emily Ortega, Katie Lynn and Ann Marie Banasik.

Springfield Soccer Club Claims Lake Country Soccer Fall League Championships

u12 girls lcs championsPRESS RELEASE -This fall the Springfield Soccer Club claimed five Lake Country Soccer Fall League Championships. On the boys side the Springfield S.C. 00/01 Red (U9), Springfield S.C. 98/99 Academy Black (U11), Springfield S.C. 97/98 (U12), and the Springfield S.C. 95/96 II all brought home hardware. The Springfield S.C. 97/98 Girls (U12) playing in the Under 14 Red Division went undefeated and won first place.

The Lake Country Soccer Fall League allows teams to supplement their fall schedule with a regular schedule of games. Many of the Springfield Soccer Club teams play up an age group in order to be more prepared for tournament play. Also, this fall several Springfield Soccer Club Girls teams played in Boys Divisions in order to increase their level of competition. “With all of the rainouts and reschedules it was a difficult fall season to get any rhythm of play. Luckily, for our players and teams having our own Indoor Facility allowed us to continue to train while others were left out in the rain. The fall season is a big one for us when it comes to development and increasing our standard of play. Having some teams capture championships is just an added bonus as the spring season for our club is more about competition.” said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations for the Springfield Soccer Club.

All Under 14 and below Springfield Soccer Club teams have resumed training as well as competing in the Springfield Soccer Club Indoor InnerLeague. Congratulations to all of the teams on a fine fall season.

PRESS RELEASE - On Friday January 22, 2010 the Springfield Soccer Club will host a 24-Hour Marathon Soccer Match as a charity/fundraising event, to help benefit the Champion Athletes of the Ozarks.

This is the third year for this event and Director of Soccer Operations Jeremy Alumbaugh is excited to host this event as it helps benefit such a worthy organization.

“The past two years have been huge events with each building on the other. The amount of funds that were raised was tremendous but also the sense of caring for our community by the players, parents and coaches in the club. It showed that when the Springfield Soccer Club family gets behind a cause that we can be quite powerful in helping out those in need.” said Alumbaugh.
