Springfield S.C. U-18 Boys Earn Third Consecutive Trip to USYS Region II Championships

PRESS RELEASE-  This past weekend the Springfield Soccer Club 90/91 (Under 18) Boys claimed their third consecutive trip to the US Youth Soccer Region II Championships held this year in Sioux Falls, SD June 20-24, 2009. Sixteen teams will compete in pool play to determine the Regional Champion and advance to the US Youth Soccer National Championships July 21-26, 2009 in Lancaster, Massachusetts.
By participating in the Midwest Regional League Premier Division the team was able to qualify for the MRL Wildcard given to the highest finishing non- State Cup winner in the division to go to US Youth Soccer Region II Championships. The Springfield S.C. 90/91 will participate in the MYSA State Cup Championships held in Springfield, MO June 6-8, 2009. If the team captures their third consecutive MYSA State Cup Championship then the MRL Wildcard spot will drop down to St. Louis Scott Gallagher Team One. In 2008 the Springfield S.C. 90/91 also captured the MRL Championship, but as the MYSA State Cup Winner the Wildcard spot was awarded to St. Louis Scott Gallagher.
Attending the US Youth Soccer Regional Championships will give the team the opportunity to better their last two appearances where they have twice been Semi- Finalists in Des Moines, IA and Rockford, IL in 2007 and 2008 respectively. “Without a doubt this group is very focused on winning their third consecutive MYSA State Cup Championship. Having it here in our own backyard is extra motivation. Bottom line is we are headed to Regionals where our goal is to capture the Championshp. If we win the State Cup again it will be special, but it does take a little pressure off knowing we have already qualified.” said Cory Carr Head Coach and Director of the Senior Boys Program.
The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series is the official youth soccer championship as sanctioned by US Youth Soccer. Over 10,000 teams enter at the State Cup level and 926 will earn the right to attend one of the four US Youth Soccer Regionals. 60 teams advance to the Nationals where 12 National Champions are crowned in July.

Springfield S.C. 96/97 Red Boys Capture U12 Gold Division at KC Select Mother’s Day Classic

ssc9697redboyschampionsPRESS RELEASE - This past weekend the Springfield Soccer Club sent seven teams to the KC Select Mother’s Day Classic in Liberty, MO. Highlighting the weekend were the Springfield S.C. 95/96 II Girls advancing to the Semi-Finals of the U13 Silver Division and the Springfield S.C. 96/97 Red Boys capturing the Boys U12 Gold Division Title. It has been difficult for many of the area teams to get any type of consistency of play with the unpredictable weather this spring, but all of the Springfield Soccer Club teams were able to find some bright spots with their play in Kansas City. “This is our second year attending this tournament which is co-hosted by KC Select and Blue Valley SC. It allows our teams to get a glimpse into future opponents as our team’s progress into the Heartland Soccer League in Kansas City as they get older. It was a well-run tournament and an exciting opportunity to play some games at William Jewell College where some of our club alumni came out to support the club and see the future stars play.” said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations.
The SSC 96/97 Red U12 Boys highlighted the weekend by taking home the Championship in the Under 12 Boys Gold Division. This is the second tournament Championship for the team after they already won the GSASC Champions Challenge in March. An exciting Final saw the team receive valuable minutes from everyone on the roster as they defeated the host club KC Select 2-1 with a late second half goal to seal the victory. “Overall it was a great weekend for the team as they played some good soccer and also found ways to get results. I am proud of their effort during the winter months to make improvements and they are starting to see how it can pay off.” said Alumbaugh who coaches the team along with Tom Giovanni.
Coming off of their own successful outing in the Ozarks Coca-Cola/Dr. Pepper Cup the SSC 95/96 II Girls lost in the Semi-Finals to Midwest Express in a hard fought game. All teams will finish up their spring Lake Country League games within the next few weeks.

Springfield Soccer Club Finishes Indoor Session at Lake Country Soccer With Several League Champions

PRESS RELEASE - The Springfield Soccer Club found plenty of action during the Indoor II Session at Lake Country Soccer. After competing during the first session in their own Indoor InnerLeague players from the club took their skills to the local league to compete against outside competition for Session II. With several teams play up an age group to find appropriate levels of competition the session was a challenge. Also, the SSC 95/96 I Girls played in a boys division so they could duplicate the upcoming spring season in the Heartland Soccer League (Kansas City) where they will compete in the 1st Division. “We look at the indoor session as a tremendous opportunity for our players to make individual improvements with their overall game. Competing for indoor championships and tournaments is not our focus. Being prepared for the spring outdoor season and making players better is the primary goal. The great thing is when that is your primary goal you will find a lot of success on the field as well.” said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations for the Springfield Soccer Club. (more…)

ssc-97-98-ozarks-coca-cola-champions-31PRESS RELEASE -During the weekend of April 4-5, 2009 the Springfield Soccer Club once again made its’ presence known at a local tournament. With several teams competing in the Ozarks Coca-Cola Dr. Pepper Cup hosted by Lake Country Soccer the familiar red and white uniforms were prominent on the fields. The weather conditions on Saturday were beautiful for early spring in Southwest Missouri, with Sunday being a quick reminder of the conditions can change overnight. Gusty winds, rain and cold made the conditions challenging on Sunday.

While it is still early in the spring outdoor season many teams and players seem to be hitting their mid season form already. “All of the training teams have been putting in during the indoor season was showing that it paid off. A few teams even practiced during their spring break to be ready for the tournament and that shows dedication.” said Eric Sorlie Director of Player Development for the Springfield Soccer Club.
