SSC will Team with Care to Learn to Help Our Community
On February 10th and 11th, 2012, the Springfield Soccer Club will host their annual 24-hour soccer marathon match as a charity/fundraising event. The proceeds of the game will be split between the Care to Learn Fund and SSC.
Care to Learn provides immediate funding and action to meet any emergent health, hunger, or hygiene issue and restore a child’s self-respect so they can get back in the classroom.
In the fall of 2007, Doug Pitt heard some sobering statistics about poverty in Springfield, Missouri. He soon shared that information with his brother, Brad Pitt. Within 24 hours, Doug called upon Jim D. Morris, a Springfield businessman and community leader, and shared the discussion he had with Brad. Before the end of the business day, Jim offered to join the Jolie-Pitt Foundation and provide funding to stop the suffering of children living in poverty. The Brad Pitt-Jim D. Morris Fund immediately began providing funds for emergent needs of Springfield students in the areas of health, hunger and hygiene.
As of May 2011, Care to Learn has fulfilled over 69,000 emergent requests from students in the areas of health, hunger and hygiene.
Springfield Soccer Club seeks to develop soccer players to their fullest athletic, educational, and social potential. This event provides an opportunity for the SSC players to contribute to the community and their club, while doing what they do best – play soccer! We encourage the support of all SSC families and friends.
